I am now aware that Santa is a gun lover. I had not known this before, but Youtube user tnoutdoors9 put up a video on Youtube to prove how much Santa Clause really is into guns.

He has a wide range of tastes, including rifles, shotguns, and semi-automatic pistols. The video includes a Glock 19, Glock 22, Ruger 10/22, Mossberg 590, three AR-15′s.

It is very funny and very entertaining.

This is the most entertaining rendition of Jingle Bells that I have ever heard!

My next question is whether Santa Clause is a concealed carrier.

It is very important that all guns be handled in a safe manner. Firearms are designed to kill, and are a good tool for doing so. Normally this is for sport, but also can be used for self defense and sport such as target shooting.

Shotguns can be fun when used for shooting clay targets in the air. Doing this safely is very important so that we do not hurt ourselves or our fellow sportsmen. Knowing and understanding the particular firearm is very important, whether it be a pistol, rifle, or shotgun.

I found an interesting video about basic shotgun safety for clay shooting for a place called Rock Creek.

The video is very well done and easy to understand and comprehend. The instruction is very clear and concise, being very easy to follow.

The same general themes from this shotgun video can be followed for other firearms. Know how the safety operates, know how to check the chamber for a loaded shell, and keep the firearm pointed in a safe direction. Help prevent accidents and tragedies by following proper safety activities.

There has been some recent action in the U.S. Congress on additional legislation that will strengthen the Second Amendment–the American right to keep and bear arms.

H.R.2296 and S. 941 work to legislate reform at the ATF. Titled “To reform the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, modernize firearms laws and regulations, protect the community from criminals, and for other purposes”

This legislation aims to roll back unnecessary restrictions and correct errors in federal firearms laws and regulations. The bill would revise the system of administrative penalties for licensed dealers, manufacturers and importers of firearms. It would prevent the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) from punishing licensees for insignificant technical violations as a means of making unconstitutional encroachment on citizens’ Second Amendment rights.

This legislation creates a more effective method of “gun control” by providing appropriate resources to ensure that individuals who commit crimes with guns are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, as opposed to seeking opportunities to penalize clerical errors – such as use of abbreviations, or filing records in the wrong order – as is currently practiced by the BATFE.

H.R. 1074 and S556 are commonly known as the Firearms Interstate Commerce Reform Act. This legislation will remove some older restrictions on the interstate sale of firearms.

The bill summary states:

“Firearms Interstate Commerce Reform Act – Amends the federal criminal code to: (1) allow licensed firearms importers, manufacturers, dealers, or collectors (licensees) to sell or deliver any firearm (currently, rifles or shotguns) to a resident of a state other than the state in which the licensee is located or temporarily located if the licensee meets with the purchaser to complete the sale or delivery and the transaction complies with the laws of the state in which the transfer is conducted and the purchaser’s state of residence; and (2) eliminate the requirement that a licensee must conduct business at a gun show only in the state that is specified on the licensee’s license.

Provides that nothing in this Act shall be construed to prohibit the sale or other disposition of a firearm or ammunition: (1) between licensed firearms dealers at any location in any state; or (2) by a licensed importer, manufacturer, or dealer to an unlicensed person at a temporary location in any state.”

H.R. 442 is the Veterans’ Heritage Firearms Act of 2009, which intends “To provide an amnesty period during which veterans and their family members can register certain firearms in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record, and for other purposes.”

These are several pieces of good legislation in the U.S. Congress that need to be supported by those of us who want to protect our Second Amendment rights. This legislation can be further researched for details, sponsors, and ongoing progress by visiting the Library of Congress tracking tool called Thomas. It is very easy to find at www.thomas.gov It is a very good place to browse legislation and search for specifics.

After we are informed, we need to write our Representative and Senators. Thank those who are on the record as a co-sponsor and encourage those who are opposed to vote for it.

One of the things to consider when purchasing and outfitting a firearm are its weight. The final weight after ammo and addons must be carefully considered for those that will be carrying the completed weapon. It is easy to be at a show or gunshop and think that a weapon is lightweight. But by the time ammo is loaded up, and additional features are added on, the weapons can quickly gain weight.

The carry time will help determine allowable weight. If a pistol or shotgun is used only around the house, heavy units will not be a problem. But if a weapon is being carried for long periods of time, it can quickly become unweildy. Hunting rifles and shotguns that are used on foot as opposed to sitting must be comfortable to carry and still be quickly brought up to shoot.

A pistol that is being carried for self defense must have a holster that will handle its’ weight. The holster must be strong enough and must be able to distribute the weight across the area of carry. An Inside the Waistband (IWB) holster that is holding a heavy weapon could put undue stress on that side of the body, and on that side of the clothing. Accidental appearance of the weapon could happen if one side of the waistband is overloaded.

The weight of weapons can be minimized by carefully selecting a weapon after very carefully considering the intended use of them. Consideration must be made for personal comfort and operation under fatigue.

Weapons can be lower in weight by using shorter barrels, lower ammunition counts, and lightweight stocks and specialized alloys for the weapon itself. These will have other affects on firearm performance, but can be good tradeoffs depending upon the intended application of the firearm.
