Does not end in tragedy, and there is not any blood or guts, nor is there any swearing. Pretty much rated G.
People like this scare me to be around at the shooting range. This is why I like to shoot on my own.

It is very important that all guns be handled in a safe manner. Firearms are designed to kill, and are a good tool for doing so. Normally this is for sport, but also can be used for self defense and sport such as target shooting.

Shotguns can be fun when used for shooting clay targets in the air. Doing this safely is very important so that we do not hurt ourselves or our fellow sportsmen. Knowing and understanding the particular firearm is very important, whether it be a pistol, rifle, or shotgun.

I found an interesting video about basic shotgun safety for clay shooting for a place called Rock Creek.

The video is very well done and easy to understand and comprehend. The instruction is very clear and concise, being very easy to follow.

The same general themes from this shotgun video can be followed for other firearms. Know how the safety operates, know how to check the chamber for a loaded shell, and keep the firearm pointed in a safe direction. Help prevent accidents and tragedies by following proper safety activities.

I recently read a very interesting and thought-provoking book by author Bill Forstchen titled One Second After. This book is a well-studied scenario of what might happen in the event of an EMP (electromagentic pulse) attack on the United States.

A big part of the book is the implementation of martial law. This concept is very abstract to most of us modern Americans, but it basically means that normal civil laws are suspended in favor of military control in circumstances of civil emergencies or unrest. One Second After demonstrates that survival of individuals and society are dependent upon a well armed population.

Massive shutdowns of society will have tragic effects on the population. Our dependence on basic food, medicine and electricity is extremely high, and the loss of these systems would set the country back 150 years in time.

Education and knowledge are the best way to understand our world and be prepared for challenges to come. This novel is a great way to begin or expand your understanding of local and national emergencies where the government may not be able to help its’ citizens.

Having guns and knowing how to use them can save your life in everyday situations, as well as national emergencies. They can be used for providing food and defense, and we must be sure to make sure these rights are preserved.

I highly recommend this book. It is an easy read, and moves along very well.

An interview with the author, Bill Forstchen

One way to save on firearms is to get an FFL license. As a Federally Licensed Firearms Dealer, you can purchase and sell firearms from other dealers, wholesaler warehouses, and the manufactures while paying bargain prices.

You can turn this into a small business, or use it to increase your collection at a reasonable price. Start buying and selling on the internet, gun shows, or for friends. Or get deals on firearms and increase your collection with the same capital investment.

The current cast of characters in Washington would love to threaten our gun rights which could change the FFL process. You might want to get in while the current set of laws are known and understood. A sudden rush of FFL license applications would occur if things looked like they were about to change because of new legislation.

Changes in gun laws might also increase the need for Federal Firearms License holders to handle transactions between parties and monitor of the sale of firearms. Gaining your FFL license might be a good investment for a number of reasons.

This video does not show blood and guts, but demonstrates a lesson to everybody about gun safety. He even appeared to check the chamber and have it verified by another adult present. It still fired into the floor. At least he had it pointed in a safe direction!

Law-abiding citizens arm themselves for defense of their person and their loved ones. Firearms, knives, mace, tasers, etc. are used to defend against criminals with intentions of violent crimes. These items used for self defense should not be referred to as weapons, though police and media continue to do so.

The police classify all guns, knives, etc as weapons whether a person is a bad guy or not. The media continue the myth from the police, and spread the fear and terror to their public audience.

The good guys carry guns, firearms, pistols, defensive tools, knives, spray, etc. The bad guys are the ones with the weapons, and the American public needs to continually remind ourselves, the police, and the media of this fact.

This is a great vintage video with a former police officer explaining the difference in weapons technology. It also includes government testimony about how the term “assault rifle” is misleading and hard to define. Testimony about the criminals converting semi-automatic rifles to full automatic rifles is included.

The news story can be found here. There is some good video from the dash camera of the responding patrol car. There are also a bunch of pictures of the firing line, Browning machine gun, and damage to neighboring property over a mile away.

A related story shows that a couple of the guys were charged with careless discharge of a firearm after the incident as a result of the ricochets. Everything else about the event was legal.

There has been some recent action in the U.S. Congress on additional legislation that will strengthen the Second Amendment–the American right to keep and bear arms.

H.R.2296 and S. 941 work to legislate reform at the ATF. Titled “To reform the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, modernize firearms laws and regulations, protect the community from criminals, and for other purposes”

This legislation aims to roll back unnecessary restrictions and correct errors in federal firearms laws and regulations. The bill would revise the system of administrative penalties for licensed dealers, manufacturers and importers of firearms. It would prevent the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) from punishing licensees for insignificant technical violations as a means of making unconstitutional encroachment on citizens’ Second Amendment rights.

This legislation creates a more effective method of “gun control” by providing appropriate resources to ensure that individuals who commit crimes with guns are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, as opposed to seeking opportunities to penalize clerical errors – such as use of abbreviations, or filing records in the wrong order – as is currently practiced by the BATFE.

H.R. 1074 and S556 are commonly known as the Firearms Interstate Commerce Reform Act. This legislation will remove some older restrictions on the interstate sale of firearms.

The bill summary states:

“Firearms Interstate Commerce Reform Act – Amends the federal criminal code to: (1) allow licensed firearms importers, manufacturers, dealers, or collectors (licensees) to sell or deliver any firearm (currently, rifles or shotguns) to a resident of a state other than the state in which the licensee is located or temporarily located if the licensee meets with the purchaser to complete the sale or delivery and the transaction complies with the laws of the state in which the transfer is conducted and the purchaser’s state of residence; and (2) eliminate the requirement that a licensee must conduct business at a gun show only in the state that is specified on the licensee’s license.

Provides that nothing in this Act shall be construed to prohibit the sale or other disposition of a firearm or ammunition: (1) between licensed firearms dealers at any location in any state; or (2) by a licensed importer, manufacturer, or dealer to an unlicensed person at a temporary location in any state.”

H.R. 442 is the Veterans’ Heritage Firearms Act of 2009, which intends “To provide an amnesty period during which veterans and their family members can register certain firearms in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record, and for other purposes.”

These are several pieces of good legislation in the U.S. Congress that need to be supported by those of us who want to protect our Second Amendment rights. This legislation can be further researched for details, sponsors, and ongoing progress by visiting the Library of Congress tracking tool called Thomas. It is very easy to find at www.thomas.gov It is a very good place to browse legislation and search for specifics.

After we are informed, we need to write our Representative and Senators. Thank those who are on the record as a co-sponsor and encourage those who are opposed to vote for it.
