Firearms Training in Detroit

Self defense is important, especially in a crime-ridden city like Detroit, Michigan.  Training others how to defend themselves with firearms is the profession of Mr. Rick Ector.

Detroit Free Press Columnist Jim Schaefer conducted an interview where they discussed this interesting job.

From the Detroit Free Press:

So, gun training. How did you get into this?

Ah, that’s a very interesting story. About eight or nine years ago, man, I was coming home from my job. I lived in a pretty decent neighborhood — North Rosedale Park. And as I was parking my car in the garage, two young adults, 17 to 19-ish, produced handguns and robbed me in my backyard.

Is that right?

And as I was being held at gunpoint that evening, obviously I was concerned about my safety. Obviously, it was a bit surreal in the fact that I never imagined that my own backyard would be a crime scene. But also, too, I felt a lot of anger at myself because at that time it had been legal for at least a couple of years for people who met the requirements to now get a concealed pistol license. … I survived that incident, and I resolved that I would take more of an active role in my personal protection.

So training people is all you do now?

Yeah. … I’m a personal protection instructor. I thought that, OK, well, I’d been wanting to take the plunge. … As circumstances would have it, they outsourced me, and then they shipped my job over to India. I said, you know what? Why don’t I take a gamble on myself and see what I can do. And I haven’t looked back.
