How Many Bullets?

How Many Bullets?

There is a new bill, called the H.R. 138 Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device Act on committee in the House of Representatives. It was introduced in January by Representative Carolyn McCarthy, Democrat from New York. This bill would prohibit the sale and transfer of ammunition magazines that have a capacity of, or could be easily converted to have more than, a quantity of 10 rounds. There are a few exceptions. Owners of large-capacity magazines on or before the date of the enactment of the bill would be allowed to keep them, as well as retired and current law enforcement officials who use those magazines for ‘purposes of law enforcement (whether on or off duty),’ along with contractors who have been licensed to carry the devices for security purposes required by federal law. Large-capacity magazines were illegal under the federal assault weapons ban that was passed in 1994 and expired in 2004.

If you are only allowed 10 rounds in your ammunition magazine, and you are a terrible shot or are faced by multiple assailants, what then? Obviously more target practice might help, but more bullets might be a little more reassuring.

If you find myself in a situation where there are multiple people threatening your life? Gangs are very prevalent in many areas, and not just urban areas anymore, so don’t discount this as a whim.

The questions to take away from this is not “How many bullets do you need?” like so many people are trying to make it, but “Who has the right to tell me how many bullets I can have?” Looking at history itself, the Revolutionary War was not so much that people did not want to pay taxes, as it was they did not have the right to choose to pay taxes. Elected officials are trying to put restrictions on something that they have no right to limit. We need to contact our Representatives and inform them we do not want our rights restricted in any way.
